Please note: the attackers themselves said they were retaliating for the video. The weird attempt to portray this as an either-or situation (either a terror attack or a reaction to the video) is just stupid, and deliberately deceptive.

There is absolutely nothing unusual about accounts changing as more information became available. I honestly find the continuing right wing efforts to exploit and politicize this tragedy repellent.

You can wave that 7-week old smelly fish trying to pretend it's news sushi all you want, nobody is going to buy it.

I thought the fact that there was no protest going on outside the consulate prior to the attack was thoroughly settled weeks ago. I certainly never heard of any official claiming that there was a protest going on since Rice did on Sept. 16th anyway. Do you know why she said that? Because it was in the talking points sheet she was given to prepare for her interviews by the damn CIA!

Ms. Rice, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, has said that the judgments she offered on the five talk shows on Sept. 16 came from talking points prepared by the C.I.A., which reckoned that the attack that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans had resulted from a spontaneous mob that was angry about an anti-Islamic video that had set off protests elsewhere. That assessment, described to Ms. Rice in briefings the day before her television appearances, was based on intercepted communications, informants’ tips and Libyan

Charles was quite clear on the other point concerning the infamous video, so I'll just leave it at that.

Here's a handy google map annotated with locations where mass protests were reported, over 50 around the globe.

It would be remarkable if there was no protest at Benghazi, and there were many, many contemporaneous reports of protest there. This kind of memory holing and deliberate suppression of common sense is completely outrageous and it's pathetic to see people supporting such utter, ridiculous nonsense.

Use your goddamned heads, Libya was awash in military grade weaponry after the fall of Gadhafi's regime, it makes sense that any protest there would be even more likely to turn violent. Hell, 19 people died at the protests in Pakistan, and they have an actual functioning government. The shear widespread nature of the protests and the huge number of them should clue you in regarding just how pissed off people were.

President Obama and Secretary Clinton have already dismissed the video excuse as false (blaming faulty intelligence). And LGF is doubling down on the false narrative?

No, they did not do anything of the sort. Here are the facts:

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

To Libyans who witnessed the assault and know the attackers, there is little doubt what occurred: a well-known group of local Islamist militants struck without any warning or protest, and they did it in retaliation for the video. That is what the fighters said at the time, speaking emotionally of their anger at the video without mentioning Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden or the terrorist strikes of 11 years earlier. And it is an explanation that tracks with their history as a local militant group determined to protect Libya from Western influence.

Clinton and Obama absolutely did NOT "dismiss the video excuse." This is right wing bullshit. What they said was that there was apparently no peaceful protest on the day the attack took place.

It's incredibly clear that the video was the motivation for this attack. The attackers themselves said so. Maybe you think they were lying too? They must be in on the plot to cover it up.
